Utilities

Town Shop 20x6

Utility bills are sent out every two months as follows: February, April, June, August, October and December. Utility bills include water, storm water, sewer, recycling, and garbage fees. Bills are addressed to the name of the property owner, as per Land Titles notification.

If you are interested in paying your water / sewer / garbage utility bills directly through your bank account, under the town's pre-authorized payment plan for utilities, the account holder will still receive the bi-monthly levy. The Town will directly debit your bank account on the 15th of the month following your utility bill.

Why are utility rates being increased?
1st STEP TOWARDS “FULL COST ACCOUNTING”: Provincial grants are being severely reduced. The Province is encouraging municipalities to look at operating their utilities efficiently and save for upgrading and replacement costs of services. This increase will align operational costs and begin the process of implementing the Full Cost Accounting Model.

THE NEW RATES WILL BE BASED ON USAGE: The rates incorporate a basic rate which will reflect a portion of the cost equally over all users and a usage rate that will reflect consumption by individual users.

REBALANCE FUNDING OF UTILITY COST: Previously a percentage of the annual operating cost of our water and wastewater systems were funded by tax revenue. The above increase in user rates will allow the annual operating costs to be totally funded by user fees.
