Nanton is fortunate enough to be built on a hill which facilitates good drainage of stormwater. Where necessary, 5.8 kms of underground stormwater management is in place to assist drainage. The water is carried to wet ponds (Westview Park, Lions' Grove Park, etc).
It is important for everyone to understand that winter recreational activities on stormwater ponds is not safe due to pockets of poor ice quality. It prohibited in the Town of Nanton.
There is 19.5 kilometers of underground collection pipe in the town. It takes wastewater to the treatment plant. The water is then treated. Once the water is treated, which meets all government requirements, it is released into Mosquito Creek.
In 2017, the Town of Nanton commissioned a new wastewater treatment plant based on membrane bioreactor technology (MBR). For more information on the wastewater technology, click here.
