To provide the most efficient fire protection and rescue delivery system for the citizens of and visitors to our municipality.
The Nanton Fire Department is a volunteer service consisting of around 24 volunteer members. Fire protection and rescue services are provided to the citizens of our municipality. The department operates under the direction of the Fire Chief. The Fire Department provides additional services and information to the community, including:
Fire prevention awareness
First aid and CPR training programs
Permitted outdoor fires (see current fire bylaw)
The Nanton Fire Department raises funds for the purchase of apparatus and equipment which minimizes capital expenditures for the department. This is done through the Willow Creek Firefighters Foundation and the Mosquito Creek Firefighters Society.
This registered charity is responsible for the purchase of new and replacement equipment for the Fire Department. It was created to lessen the tax burden on the citizens of Nanton in providing up to date equipment and training for our firefighters. This charity also support many local family/youth programs including Public Skating, Sports 4 Kids and SNAPS.
Mosquito Creek Firefighters Society
This non-registered charity allows the Fire Department to host many community events including but not limited to:
Annual Ball Tournament
Halloween Haunted House
Santa Claus Festival
Funds raised from the Firemen's Ball are donated to local family/youth groups and proceeds from the annual Ball Tournament are used to purchase new equipment.
Membership and Training
The Nanton Fire Departments active members participate directly in fire and rescue operations, including incident response and operation of apparatus and equipment.
Men and women ages 18 and up who are in good physical condition and have the desire to participate in emergency fire and rescue activities are eligible to apply
All active members entering the system must complete a three month training program taught by the Training Division, regardless of whether an individual may have had prior training or experience.
Once minimum training requirements have been met, members can continue to increase their level of participation by obtaining additional training through Lakeland College.
