2022 Nanton Municipal By- Election

Councillor Terry Wickett sadly passed away in December 2021.

Due to the resulting vacancy occurring more than 18 months before the next General Municipal Election, the Town of Nanton is required to hold a By-Election to fill the vacant councillor position.

PROCESS

If you wish to nominate a resident of Nanton / run for council, please fill out the applicable form (with Candidates acceptance and signed by at least 5 persons who are electors eligible to vote in that election and resident in the local jurisdiction) that has been signed by a commissioner of oaths (various town office workers can sign at the office) and submit to the Town office.

TIMELINE

January 17th, 2022: By-Election Announced 

January 31st, 2022: NOMINATION Day. Submit nomination paperwork by NOON. 

(all candidates must submit / resubmit nomination papers to be considered for by-election candidacy). 

February 1st, 2022: Nominations announced. 

February 28th, 2022: Voting Day for By-Election at Tom Hornecker Recreation Centre (2122 18th Street. Nanton, AB)


BY-ELECTION VOTING DAY

By-Election voting will commence at the Tome Hornecker Recreation Centre foyer / main entrance where Eligible voters may cast one vote for the candidate of their choice. 

February 28th, 2022 from 10:00AM - 8:00PM 

Voters will require proof of residence to the Town of Nanton and piece of government issued identification. 

There will be no advance poll or special ballot opportunities.
