Former site of the original Calgary and Edmonton Railway Company line (CPR mile 56.1 Macleod Subdivision) that founded Nanton, Mile 56 Park is located immediately east of northbound section of Highway 2, between Highway 533 and 21st Street. It serves as a pedestrian path or trail connector between the Lion's Campground/ golf course area and the commercial core, as well as the Nanton Grain Elevators. Development of this linear park is a work in progress, most recently supported by federal government funds in 2022 to bring picnic tables, landscaping, signage, water and seasonal washrooms to the location.
Important: washrooms are open seasonally only (April-October).
Help the Town by reporting vandalism or damage.
Home to the McEwan Schoolhouse, which often acts as a Visitor Information Centre, the Town works with both Nanton and District Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre, to progressively improve this area for visitors and residents alike.
