2025 Road Assessment Report
In 2025, the Town of Nanton retained CIMA Engineering to complete a comprehensive assessment of existing roadways. The review evaluated all roads using photographic documentation and rated each section based on asphalt condition, age, and structural integrity.
The assessment found that most roads are experiencing moderate to high levels of deterioration, primarily due to the age of the asphalt. The most common issues identified were age hardening and surface ravelling. A smaller number of locations showed signs of structural failure, where full reconstruction of the road base is recommended in accordance with Town of Nanton standards. In areas where deterioration is limited to the surface, recommended maintenance includes milling and placement of approximately 50 mm of new asphalt.
Overall, three road sections were classified as severely deteriorated, one section as moderately deteriorated with structural failure, and thirty-two sections as moderately deteriorated with surface-level deficiencies.
This assessment will help guide Council in planning future capital projects and inform the Town’s ongoing asset management and infrastructure investment decisions.
