COMMUNITY BYLAW 1433/26 – FIRST READING
At its September 21, 2026 Regular Meeting, Council gave first reading to proposed Community Bylaw 1433/26. First reading is the first step in the bylaw process. The bylaw is not yet final and may still be amended before Council considers second and third reading. The September 21 meeting and agenda package are available on the Town’s website.
The proposed bylaw would replace the existing Community Bylaw 1299/18 and includes a number of updates and clarifications, including:
- Clearer standards and definitions for unsightly and untidy properties, nuisance conditions, screening and what is considered visible to the public.
- More specific expectations for building exteriors, property maintenance and outdoor storage, including residential, commercial and industrial properties.
- Updated requirements for inoperative vehicles and new provisions addressing unattached trailers on public roadways.
- Additional requirements aimed at keeping construction sites safe, secure and properly maintained.
- A more clearly defined voluntary compliance and enforcement process, including opportunities to correct concerns before a remedial order where circumstances allow.
- Updated provisions for repeat offences, penalties and remediation costs where the Town is required to undertake work to bring a property into compliance.
