Nomination Paper and Candidate Acceptance

Nomination Period and Nomination Day

The Nomination Period for the 2025 Municipal Election will start January 2nd, 2025.

If you are considering putting your name forth during the Nomination Period, please contact the Returning Officer to make an appointment for nomination.

Packages can be picked up at the Town Administration Office (1907 - 21 Avenue), or are linked below.

Nomination Day

September 22, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Town of Nanton Administration Office (1907 - 21 Avenue).

Qualifications for Candidates

Criteria for Ineligibility

A person is ineligible to become a candidate under any of the following circumstances:

If you are auditor of the municipality
If you are an employee of the Town of Nanton, unless granted a leave of abscence
If your property taxes are more than $50 in arrears or you are in default of more than 90 days for any debt in excess of $500 to the municipality
If you have, within the last 10 years, been convicted of an offence under the Local Authorities Election Act, the Election Act, the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act or the Canada Elections Act.

Campaign Sign Rules

The Town of Nanton Land Use Bylaw outlines the rules for campaign signs.

Any contraventions of the rules will be handled by the Returning Officer.

SHOULD CAMPAIGN SIGNS REMAIN POSTED AFTER THE INDICATED TIME FRAME, THE TOWN SHALL DIRECT THE SIGNS BE REMOVED WITH ALL COSTS BEING CHARGED BACK THE CORRESPONDING CANDIDATE.

Please note that no candidate of an election (or any member of the public) is authorized to use the Town's logo, crest, or any other trademarked and intellectual property of the Town of Nanton without written consent of the municipality.

What are the roles and responsibilities of Council

The Town of Nanton Council fulfills the legislative function of the Town’s municipal government. The Council is responsible for establishing corporate policy and setting the strategic priority of Town staff for both short and long term goals. Can I use the Town logo or crest in my campaign materials?

No, the Town of Nanton’s official logo, motto, and crest are protected by copyright. Any unauthorized use of these elements, including by campaigners, is considered an infringement of the Town's copyright.

All logos, crests, mottos, graphic design elements, digital content, and visual identifiers belonging to the Town of Nanton are the property of the municipality. Unless express written consent is given by the Town of Nanton, anyone using these materials for private purposes is violating the Town’s copyright.

If you notice a candidate using the Town of Nanton’s logo or other protected materials in their campaign materials, please notify the Returning Officer.

Does the Town list election platforms for candidates?

The Town of Nanton remains neutral during the election process and does not endorse or promote individual candidate campaigns.

However, for the 2025 municipal election, we aim to make it easier for voters to learn about the candidates and their platforms. To facilitate this, all candidates will have the opportunity to submit a one-page document outlining their campaign priorities, as well as their contact information or social media details. These submissions will be made available on the Town of Nanton’s official municipal election website throughout the campaign period for easy access by voters.
